produced by fermenting corn sugar with a microbe called Xanthomonas campestris. It is used to thicken, smooth, and stabilize many foods and is
considered nontoxic.
Yucca
Extract - This extract originates in the
sub-tropical yucca plant. The extract is a dark, bittersweet foaming agent used
in cocktail mixes, root beers, and also some ice creams. It is not known to be
toxic.
Zinc Acetate, Zinc Carbonate, Zinc Chloride, Zinc
Gluconate, Zinc Oxide -
All different forms of zinc
that are used in and as dietary supplements. GRAS.
Zinc Methionine Sulfate -
This
is the form of zinc that is most commonly used in vitamin and mineral tablets.
The amount used is regulated by the FDA.
Zinc Sulfate -
Frozen
egg products and substitutes may contain this zinc salt. GRAS.
Zingerone, Zingiberone -
Fresh
ginger is the origin of this flavoring. It is commonly used in root beer, ginger
ale, chewing gum, candies, ice creams, and baked goods. Not known to be toxic.
