Herbs with Rubefacient Properties

Buttercup*, Cayenne, Cowslip*, Hellebore*, Horseradish*, Juniper*, Knotweed*, Mezereon*, Monarda, Mustard Seed*, Pasque Flower*, Peppermint Oil, Prickly Ash, Rosemary Oil*, Rue*, Thyme Oil*.

 Buttercup - (a) Ranunculus acris (b) Ranunculus bulbosus (c) Ranunculus sceleratus - CAUTION: Mere contact with (a) can cause irritation and blistering. Do not use without medical supervision.

 Cayenne - See Anticatarrhals

 Cowslip - See Analgesics

 Hellebore - See Cardiacs

 Horseradish - See Anticatarrhals

 Juniper - See Antibiotics

 Knotweed - See Antilithics

 Mezereon - Daphne mezereum - CAUTION: Three or four berries can kill a person. This entire plant is poisonous and people have even been poisoned from eating birds that have eaten the berries. Too dangerous to use without medical supervision.

 Mustard Seed - Brassica nigra - CAUTION: Large amounts or prolonged use of black mustard, internally or externally, can cause serious irritation and inflammation. Never let undiluted mustard oil contact the skin.

 Pasque Flower - Anemone patens - CAUTION: Pasque flower contains alkaloids that cause depression, nervousness, and stomach upset. It can be fatal if taken in sufficient quantities. DO NOT USE WITHOUT MEDICAL SUPERVISION.
