Herbs with Oxytocic Properties

Birthwort*, Blue Cohosh*, Cannabis*, Cotton*, Ergot*, Peruvian Bark*.

 Birthwort - Aristolochia clematitis - CAUTION: This herb contains an alkaloid similar to colchicine, which is poisonous. Medical supervision is recommended with the use of this herb.

 Blue Cohosh - Caulophyllum thalictroides - CAUTION: Blue Cohosh can be very irritating to mucous membranes and can cause dermatitis on contact. Children have been poisoned by the berries. This herb should be used only under experienced supervision.

 Cannabis - Cannabis sativa - Caution: In 1937 restrictions were placed on cannabis that practically eliminated it's use medicinally. Research into its properties have only surfaced over the past few years. Not recommended for use without medical supervision.

 Cotton - Gossypium spp. - CAUTION: Do not use without medical supervision. Pregnant women should avoid using this herb.

 Ergot - Claviceps purpurea - CAUTION: Do not use without medical supervision. Pregnant women should avoid using this herb.

 Peruvian Bark - Cinchona spp. - CAUTION: Because of its effect on the uterus, Peruvian Bark should not be used during pregnancy. Use only in small doses under medical supervision.
