Blue Cohosh - Caulophyllum
thalictroides - CAUTION: This
herb can be very irritating to mucous membranes, and dermatitis can happen on
contact. Poisoning of children has been recorded who have ingested the berries.
Fraxinella
- Dictamnus albus - CAUTION:
Exposure to sunlight after contact with this plant may cause dermatitis.
Hedge Garlic
- Sisymbrium alliaria - CAUTION:
When using this plant as a poultice or plaster, irritation of the skin is likely
to occur.
Kousso -
Hagenia abyssinica - CAUTION:
When taken in the proper amounts, this herb will eliminate tapeworms. Excessive
dose may cause vomiting or nausea.
Larch
- Larix europaea - CAUTION:
Used internally or externally, it is important to only use small amounts of this
herb, since even moderate amounts can cause damage to the kidneys along with
swelling and blistering to the skin.
Larkspur -
Delphinium consolida - CAUTION:
Although not used much today, this plant is poisonous if consumed in large
quantities, especially the seeds and young plants.
Mulberry -
Morus rubra - CAUTION:
The milky juice from the Red Mulberry, as well as the unripe fruit, can cause
hallucinations, nervous stimulation, and upset stomach.
Pinkroot -
Spigelia marilandica - CAUTION:
Side effects from the use of this herb include rapid heartbeat, dizziness, and
sluggishness. An overdose of this herb can be fatal. Not recommended without
medical supervision.
Pomegranate
- Punica granatum - CAUTION:
The rind, when taken in large doses, can cause cramps, vomiting, and other
unpleasant side effects.
Rue -
Ruta graveolens - CAUTION:
Rue, in large doses can cause mild poisoning. SHOULD NOT BE USED BY PREGNANT
WOMEN. The fresh plant can cause dermatitis, as the juice is a local irritant.
Tansy
- Tanacetum vulgare - CAUTION:
Use Tansy only under medical supervision, except in emergencies, because an
overdose of the oil or tea can be fatal.
Thyme -
Thymus vulgaris - CAUTION:
Internally, if used excessively, Thyme can give symptoms of poisoning and can
over-stimulate the thyroid gland.
Wormseed -
Chenopodium ambrosioides
var. anthelminticum - CAUTION:Poisoning
and death have been recorded when overdoses of the oil have been taken.
Wormwood
- Artemesia absinthium - CAUTION: The oil of
the wormwood plant, in its pure form, is a strong poison, and excessive use of
this plant can also cause poisoning. With proper
dosage, there is little or no danger.
