Herbs with Abortifacient Properties

Angelica, Blessed Thistle (large doses), Blue Cohosh, Buckthorn, Celery, Cotton, Ergot, Hedge Hyssop, Hemlock Spruce, Horseradish, Juniper, Mandrake, Mayapple, Mistletoe*, Pennyroyal*, Peruvian Bark, Ragwort*, Shepard's Purse, Tansy.

Mistletoe - (a) Phoradendron flavescens - American Mistletoe (b) Viscum album - European Mistletoe CAUTION: The berries of American mistletoe are poisonous, and children's deaths have been attributed to them. Large doses of European Mistletoe can have a dangerous effect on heart action and can be especially dangerous to children.

Pennyroyal - (a) Hedeoma pulegium - American Pennyroyal (b) Mentha pulegium - European Pennyroyal CAUTION: American Pennyroyal should not be taken during pregnancy. European Pennyroyal is poisonous, especially the flowers. Tea made from the European variety can be fatal.

Ragwort - (a) Senecio aureus - Golden Ragwort (b) Senecio jacoboea - European Ragwort (c) Senecio vulgaris - Common Groundsel CAUTION: Golden Ragwort contains alkaloids, which are known to be toxic to livestock. Medical use of the European variety and the Common grounsel is not advisable without knowledgeable guidance.
